THE  OTHER  SUBJECT

A core component of this course is training to deliver a collection of ground-breaking and accredited coaching programs that help children and adolescents thrive physically, mentally, emotionally and academically (The OS Programs). The programs have been primarily created for delivery in schools but can also be delivered outside of schools. After completing The OS Programs, participants receive a formal certificate to acknowledge the valuable coaching and life-skills that they have learnt and acquired. They may then use this to enhance and strengthen their personal profile/CV.

Each program uses tried and tested coaching tools and techniques. These tools and techniques are also blended with neuroscience, cognitive behavioural science, positive psychology, mindfulness and resilience-based methodologies to make them truly integrative and impactful programs.

There are eight programs carefully crafted for every year of school from Reception (4-5 years old) to Year 13 (17-18 years old). Each program is based on one of the following colour-coded modules, representing a key area for maturation and development in children and young people:

Module 1 Module 2 Module 3 Module 4 Module 5 Module 6 Module 7 Module  8
Focus and awareness Relationship with myself Relationship with others Communication Resilience Future planning Accomplishment Endings

All of the programs are flexible and adaptable. They can be used as a lesson, workshop, talk or assembly – alternatively they can be used to support children or adolescents one-to-one or in small groups inside or outside of a school setting. They can also be shortened and delivered in one session or expanded and delivered over a few weeks when there is the time to do this.

HOW DO THESE PROGRAMS BENEFIT CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS?

  • Empowers them to be their own coach and be more responsible, independent and resilient.

The OS programs empower participants to be their own coach so that they can take more responsibility for themselves. This includes solving problems, making decisions and accomplishing their goals. A key component to this is committing to positive change via ‘Personal Promises’ (for primary school-aged children) and ‘Nail Downs’ (for secondary school-aged children). This allows them to hop into the driver’s seat, take control and start shaping their own lives so that they can be happier, healthier and more productive. Participants are also given the option to buddy up with peers to help monitor their progress with respect to any change.

  • Helps them progress in key areas of maturation and development specific to their age-group.

There is a program for every year of school from Reception (4-5 years old) to Year 13 (17-18 years old). All programs are gender-neutral and cover key areas of maturation and development. Programs are also strategically allocated to specific year groups so that they are age-appropriate and impactful.

  • Expands their access to help and support services.

Most schools, organisations and families will vouch for the fact that only a small portion of children and adolescents actually access and engage with support services, such as counselling. Sadly there are many children and adolescents who would like support or who need it, but do not reach out for it due to stigma and/or shame, not feeling their issues are serious enough to warrant support, not wanting to miss lessons/activities, not having enough time, and/or support services being over-subscribed, limited or unavailable. The OS programs are an attractive option for children and adolescents as they are packaged as ‘coaching’, which is more time-limited, structured and non- stigmatised. The OS programs can also be run as a compulsory course/series of workshops in schools or organisations and built into their curriculum/wellbeing program, making support accessible to all pupils/members. Tools, tips and strategies from our programs can also be used and adapted to support children and adolescents individually or in small focus groups inside and outside of a school setting.

  • Enables them to prevent, intercept and support any issues early on.

As well as supporting children and adolescents with current performance, mental health and wellbeing issues, The OS Programs give them the knowledge, information and tools they need to prevent, intercept and support such issues early on in life before they develop further.

  • Gives them a formal qualification that can be used to strengthen and enhance their personal profile/CV.

More than ever, personal development is taken into account when considering applications and/or interviewing candidates. After finishing the programs, children and adolescents get a formal certificate to acknowledge the valuable coaching and life-skills that they have learnt and acquired. They can then use this to enhance and strengthen any application for a position or place with other schools, universities, colleges, organisations or future employers. HOW DO THESE PROGRAMS BENEFIT SCHOOLS, ORGANISATIONS AND FAMILIES?

  • Gives schools, organisations and families reassurance that they are using safe, reliable and accredited programs.

The OS Programs are the result of years of experience, taking scientifically-proven coaching techniques (traditionally used in business and sporting sectors) and combining them with neuroscience, cognitive behavioural science, positive psychology, resilience techniques and mindfulness. In recognition of their quality, our programs have been accredited by the International Authority for Coaching and Mentoring (IAPC&M). This helps schools, organisations and families feel reassured that that they are adopting a fully accredited course and a culmination of all the most widely-accepted and evidence-based approaches to boost the performance, mental health and well-being of children and young people. This is preferable to one modality that may go in and out of favour, depending on trends in Government initiatives and research.

  • Embeds a coaching culture.

The OS Programs help embed a coaching culture to boost performance, mental health and well-being in your school or organisation. As well as running year group programs, you can use the programs to coach pupils/members one-to-one or in small focus groups and deliver stand-alone workshops, assemblies and/or talks for pupils/members, parents or staff.

  • Is complementary and helpful to counselling and other support services.

Coaching provides an additional layer of support for basic issues. This can be most useful when counselling services are over-stretched in your school or organisation. Coaching can also be an extra catch and referral point with respect to more complex issues.

  • Helps schools, organisations and families save time and money.

Coaching is goal-focused, time-limited and structured; thus it is usually more cost-effective than some other support services which are, by their nature, more open-ended.
